KEYS TO COMPREHEND THE QURAN
6) Parent’s Share in Inheritance
The essential thing to consider in the distribution of one’s estate is the will of the dying person. To distribute the inheritance according to the will and pay off the outstanding debts are the first things to do. With reference to the parents’ share, we have the following prescription in the Quran:
11 – …For parents a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children. If no children and the parents are the heirs, the mother has a third. If the deceased left brothers or sisters the mother has a sixth after the payment of legacies and debts.
4 The Women, 11
The parents receive 1/6 of the inheritance while the mother’s share increases up to 1/3 if the deceased has no children.
